Life changes dramatically when you have your first baby. And even though you’ll feel like there’s nothing you CAN do at times, you’ll find your way around most of them. Here are some things you can not do with a new baby around.
Things you can not do with a new baby
1. Eating with two hands
You’re going to be eating with a baby in your lap, a lot. Another guarantee is also that one of you will end up covered in crumbs and you’ll discover little pieces of food in your baby’s diaper, which is totally acceptable.
2. Leaving the house without needing two hours of prep time
You’ll always have too much crap to pack, and guaranteed, your baby will need a diaper change before you leave the house. Get ready to settle into a life that requires at least an hour of prep every time before leaving the house.
3. Cleaning anything
So here’s life with a new baby: you’ll wipe down half the kitchen counter, and then your baby will need feeding. You’ll declutter one room (but only partially) and then your baby will need a diaper change. By the time you’re done the cleaning, it’ll be time to start all over again.
4. Watching an entire TV show
Before you had a baby, you never imagined that it could be an actual issue to watch a quick 30-minute TV show, but now that baby’s here, it’s a whole new game. It will take you at least three nights to watch that one episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
5. Remembering where you are in the week
At first, you’ll have no clue what day it is. All you know is that the sun came up this morning and that it will set again tonight. You’ll get better with it eventually, but not before going through a stage where it’s hard to tell the difference between morning and afternoon. Finally, as you emerge from the newborn fog, you’ll be able to tell the difference between a normal week day and a weekend.
There are some things you won’t be able to do until your baby is out of the newborn stage but just hang in there. Vent as much as needed, and don’t forget to laugh about it a little too. Your baby will only be little for so long, and pretty soon, you’ll be able to finish a conversation without having to restart at least 20 times.
