How to effectively do your errands quicker

Doesn’t ding your errands quicker sound like fun? These little tasks eat up hours of your day that could be spent doing things you actually enjoy. Here are some pointers that’ll help you get through your to-do list faster, easier and with less stress.

Tips for doing errands quicker

Group them together

Running single errands at a time is a total waste of time and energy. Save time, petrol, energy and stress hormones by grouping your errands into batches. If you’ve got to drop your kid off at hockey practice, you might just as well swing around at the bank to deposit that check and pop into the shop for milk and bread on your way back.

Do them during the quiet times

If you want to do your errands quicker, don’t try and do them over weekends, when the vast majority of people do theirs. Make sure all your service providers (like the dry cleaner, bank, supermarket and doctor) are close to work so you can get these mundane tasks out of the way on your way to or from work. This will help you avoid crammed shops and heavy traffic over weekends. Plus, weekends are the two days in a week you have for you and your family, so spend it with them!

Take your list with you wherever you do

This includes the ordinary tasks and those little extra things you keep forgetting, like making a vet appointment for the dog and buying potting soil. Make sure you use a sturdy notebook and carry it with you at all times.

Be a bulk buyer

The less often you need to head out to the shops for everyday items like toilet paper, dog food, toothpaste and deodorant, the less time you’ll spend ding errands. If your storage space is a little tight, store them under your beds.

Don’t forget to include some fun

List all the things you like doing like reading or spending some time at the driving range. Plan to include some of those things in your extended errand run. All work and no play…well, you know how that one turns out in the end.

Keep a cooler and a basket in the boot

The cooler is there to keep frozen and cool foods cold while you’re out running errands. The basket it there to make it easy to carry things into the house without the need to make several trips back to the car.
