There are few things more authentic to South African culture than a good braai. The only problem is that most braai spots in SA don’t have what we’d call “the best” entertainment for kids. Looking for a fun new venue where you can chill out knowing that the kids are happy too? Have a look at our curated list for the details:
Best braai spots in SA
Gillooly’s Farm in Bedfordview is the quiet escape from the bustle of the city you’ve always craved. With excellent facilities, walking trails, and recreational areas, the kids will be more than happy to head out for the day. The farm is home to more than 50 bird species, has its own man-made lake, and some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the area.
Located in Krugersdorp, Pines Resort is one of the best braai spots in SA, and ideal for a sunny day out with the family. The resort limits the number of guests that can enter on a daily basis, so it’s never too crowded. Braai stands and grids are provided, so all you need to take is something to cook over the hot coals.
Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve
Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is located in Heidelberg and is ideal for hiking, cycling, and of course a good braai. Kids will love the idea of spotting the variety of wildlife such as zebra, wildebeest, and hyena that call the park home. It’s also a great destination for bird lovers since the park is home to some 200 bird species.
Fountains Valley Resort
With a large swimming pool and kiddies paddling pool, Fountains Valley is ideal for those scorching hot summer days. They also have two designated play areas for kids that don’t plan on getting wet. Braais and grills are provided, and the resort charges a minimal entrance fee for day visitors.
Inanda Dam and Resort
Hillcrest’s Inanda Dam and Resort is the place to be if you love the idea of relaxing by the water’s edge. Complete with an abundance of picnic spots, amazing jungle gyms, and well-maintained toilet facilities, it’s everything you need for a great day out with the family.
Animal Farmyard and Tea Garden
Animal Farmyard and Tea Garden is located in Assagay, Durban. The establishment offers a great little petting zoo for your tony humans to enjoy. While dad takes care of the braai, kids can try their hand at milking a Jersey cow, touching and feeding the animals, and enjoying the pony and tractor rides.
Nkutu Picnic Site
Within the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, you’ll find Nkutu Picnic Site. It’s where two river valleys meet and provide a quieter day out than the popular Kloof Falls, which is also located within the reserve.
Cape Town Area
Located between Clifton and Glen beaches, Maiden’s Cove is a gorgeous ocean-front braai spot that provides stunning views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. When they’re not enjoying the waves, kids can splash around in the tidal pools, which provide hours of fun.
Perdekloof Picnic Area
Cape Point has its own cosy and quiet braai spot, and it’s called Perdekloof Picnic Area. The site offers concrete tables and braai spots. Kids can play around on the beach and frolic in the waves as dad tends to the business of braai.
